Reach to Recovery Peer Support, from women with the same experience
In “Alma Zois” we know how important it is for a woman diagnosed with breast cancer to communicate with another woman who had the same experience years ago.
For this reason, the mental health professionals of the Association, according to the standards of the International Programme for the Support of Women with Breast Cancer “Reach to Recovery”, educate appropriately breast cancer survivors who want to offer their time and expertise to support practicaly and emotionally other women with the same diagnosis.

Universal principle of “Reach to Recovery”
A woman who has experienced breast cancer has the time and expertise to help support another woman who is facing the same challenge.
Basic Principles of the program
- Women who have undergone breast surgery find great help and relief the first difficult days after surgery, talking with other women who had the same experience years ago and now enjoy a normal life.
- Face-to-face communication of the patient with a trained volunteer who, years ago, had the same experience
- Their common experience ensures real understanding
- The training by mental health professionals makes their communication meaningful
- The volunteer is the living example of good recovery, quality of life and patient reactivation

The Mental Health Professional of the Association will bring you into contact with the volunteer that best fits your profile .
What to expect during my contact with a volunteer of the Association ” Alma Zois” ?
Your contact with the volunteer can be done immediately and in a confidential environment, in your hospital room , at the headquarters of the Association or even by telephone .
In case of a personal meeting, the volunteer will give you informative material, special breast prosthesis for the first few days after surgery, a special ball for hand exercises and list of stores that offer items you may need.
“All women of the Association have lived the breast cancer experience. Although each case is different, we feel the same emotions and understand more than anyone what you experience now. We face the same practical difficulties. We are here for you. “
International Reach to Recovery program in Hospitals
Invariably, once a week , trained volunteers of the Association , breast cancer survivors, offer emotional support to other women with the same experience in Breast Cancer Clinics in the following Hospitals :
REA: Every Tuesday, 11:00-14:00
Elena Venizelos: Every Tuesday, 10:00-12:00
Metropolitan Hospital: Every Thursday, 11:00-13:00
Metaxas Oncological Hospital: Every Thursday, 10:30-12:30
